Chevy vs gt500 article Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words
Chevy vs gt500 article - Essay Example Ford was faster on the straight and up the hills but Camaro was faster at corners. Although Ford had won by few seconds, Camaro proved to be a better car because of more efficient brake system. (words: 152) Camaro had magnetorheological shock absorbers that kept the chassis under control and smoothed the rough patches on the street. Ford could not take bumps on the road and experienced vertical motions which adversely impacted driving. Camaroââ¬â¢s brake system was better and stopped instantly. It gave confidence to the drivers of Camaro. On the other hand, after first lap, brake got heated up and do not stop fast enough, which could prove fatal on racetrack. The cooling system in Ford was flawed. The brakes being very crucial aspect of driving, driving Ford made drivers nervous. The basic assumption of the writer is that the car which makes every day driver a pleasure is more of a people car. Moreover major features like brake and good shock absorbers are hugely important elements of good car. Thus, along with speed, torque and traction, the performance of the car also evaluated their brake and efficiency of the shock absorbers to smooth rough patches. Relevant factors in the performance evaluation of the two cars were its speed, traction, torque, brake and smoothing of bumps on the roads. While the two cars competed equally on first three factors, Camaro won hands down on superior brake system and better shock absorbers which made driving a great pleasure. The tone of the article is highly technical. It uses technical vocabulary to define parts and functions that give relevance to the high performance of the car. But while the overall tone might be technical, the article is easy to understand and gives readers of all age, a better perspective of the issues that make driving better. The General Information For Anti Globalization
The General Information For Anti Globalization Anti-Globalization was defended as a belief shared by various political groups that people must oppose globalization (=the process of making something such as a business operate in different countries around the world) because of bad effects it has on people, especially in developing countries, and because of the damage it does to the environment the Longman Dictionary of Contemporary English Advanced Learners. Almost the anti-globalization activities are spontaneous, the people whose benefit was affected stood up then performed the anti-globalization activities such as demonstration, ask for relieveà ¢Ã¢â ¬Ã ¦ In fact, the activities which are opposite to globalization can be divided into 2 groups: Anti-Globalization and Alter-Globalization. The anti-globalization group directly opposes to the globalization activities; they think that the movement of people over the frontier must be controlled strictly; explorer other countrys natural resources and human resources are not permitted. This group argued that biodiversity and natural resources can be damaged permanently; and mainly call for democratic representation, advancement of human rights and more egalitarian states. The targets of this group are the World Bank (WB), International Monetary Fund (IMF), the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) and the World Trade Organization (WTO) and free trade treaties like the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), Free Trade Area of the Americas (FTAA), the Multilateral Agreement on Investment (MAI) and the General Agreement on Trade in Services (GATS). Alter-globalization is the name of a social movement that supports global cooperation and interaction, but which opposes the negative effects of economic globalization, feeling that it often works to the detriment of, or does not adequately promote, human values such as environmental and climate protection, economic justice, labor protection, protection of indigenous cultures and human rights. Wikipedia The different between anti-globalization and alter-globalization is anti-globalization against any kinds of globalization but the alter-globalization just mentioned about human rights, the environment, national sovereignty, and cultural diversity and so on. There are 2 popular forums for anti globalization: World Social Forum and World Economic Forum. Chapter 2: Why anti-globalization still exist? To analyst the reverses of globalization, we focus on three objects that the globalization affected to: local companies, local population, and the local economic. Firstly, the local firms: When the nation open to globalization too soon, and too sudden, the local firms had not prepare enough to face with the competitive of over sea corporations will go to bankruptcy easily. It is easy to find the example for Chuong Duong company Secondly, the local population: If the globalization incurred, local firms go bankrupt will cause the unemployment, the new organizations which had not established enough yet can not hired these new unemployees, this cause the high unemployment rate. This is the main reason for indigent at Africa. Disease can move from country to country very fast because the people can travel to other countries by air, by bus, trains or other transportation in the short time. This cause the diseases spread very fast and became the reason of thousand cases of dead at 2006 for bird flu from Indonesia and spread to other countries, 774 cases for SARS in 2003 at China and other East Asia countries, millions people dead because AIDSà ¢Ã¢â ¬Ã ¦ Brain drain: talent will go out of the poor countries to the richers. This situation can be seen much at Africa, India and many poor countries all over the world. These countries finance to these students to go over sea study but they have never come back after graduated. Income distribution: Thirdly: local economic: The economic can not stable: when the nation join to the worlds market, it will be easy affect by the world situation, let came back to the crisis at 1997, the economic of the world had been affected. The developed countries force the developing countries to reduce trade barrier but they keep for themselves by hamper the developing countries to export agriculture products which are very important for they to receive foreign currency earning. If the nation opens the market too soon, sooner than establishing of the local organizations, the creating new jobs will less than the loss. The export of this nation will not develop, the import infringe instead, deficit become serious day after day. This nation will poorer and poorer. Finally: the local society: The develop countries will export the pollution to the developing and undeveloped countries by invest the pollution goods industries, second hand goodsà ¢Ã¢â ¬Ã ¦ to these countries. Chapter 3: Advantages and disadvantages of anti- globalization: Advantages: Anti-globalization can warn to the world the significant problems of the world such as warming of the earth, pollution, forest destroy, greenhouse affect, and so on. So that the governments and organizations can perform the actions to reduce these affects. Pollution: as many countries Racial discrimination: Sex discrimination: The war at Iraq and others To disclosure the truth that have never disclosure themselves of IMF, WB, WTOà ¢Ã¢â ¬Ã ¦ Anti-globalization also calls for help the world: when the actives raise the problems, the people all over the world can catch them then they may perform some activities to solve these problems. Disadvantages: The demonstrations affected to social securities, many people die due to the extremist actions of the demonstration activities. The governments also have to perform many actions to control these extremist activities. The power of the voice of the anti-globalization still weak, the persuade ability of this organization also weak, can not appeal large group of people to do things, almost the activist just stand alone or just at a small group. The anti-globalization are always action without organization, they just a group of people who were hurt by the activities of one organization then stand up and perform anti actions. Lack of evidence: Lack of effective: Chapter 4: The anti-globalization activities at Vietnam: In general, the anti-globalization activities of Vietnam are not many. This is because Vietnam performs globalization too late. After 30 Apr 1975, Vietnam was achieved to be an independence country. Almost people agreed that during ten years after the independence date was the black period of Vietnam economic. Almost activities become stagnation; famine incur in many areas event at Mekong delta which was the biggest farm in the country; education, health care and other social welfare were totally ignored. The globalization of Vietnam begins at 1986 with the open market policy name socialist-oriented market economy. Thank to this policy, the economic of Vietnam reversed, farmers got his own land (event in temporary) for manufacturing and alive. Up to Dec 2001, US-Vietnam Bilateral Agreement was signed; this is the very important step for recover the economic and became the first step to join into World Trade Organization (WTO). These are just some activities at Vietnam for this event: to strike for higher rate of pay in the industrial zone Binh Duong province and Bien Hoa city at 2008 for some Taiwan firms; Conclusion: According to Yin Yang theory of Chinese, every thing has 2 faces: positive and negative, the existing of anti-globalization also belongs to this theory, anti-globalization will exist parallel with globalization, this also the rules of the existing: opposition to develop, and develop must contain opposition. Einstein also issued the theory for relative: every thing

An Analysis of Gabriel Garcia Marquezââ¬â¢s, A Very Old Man with Enormous W
A Very Old Man with Enormous Wings Analysis In Gabriel Garcia Marquezââ¬â¢s ââ¬Å"A Very Old Man with Enormous Wings,â⬠he was able to exaggerate an element of our lives in order to prove that everything we have known and come to believe is actually not what it seems. Marquez has twisted something so solid in our beliefs such as an angel, in order to help us understand that nothing can be assumed from popular belief and appearances. Upon immediate viewing of the angel, the perception of reality has changed in its entirety. All past knowledge has become irrelevant now that it has been proven false. In an instant, an entire belief system has crumbled. Pelayo and Elisenda refuse to think of this man as an angel even though he clearly was. ââ¬Å"That was how they skipped over the inconvenience of the wings and quite intelligently concluded that he was a lonely castaway from some foreign ship wrecked by the storm.â⬠Angels in our minds have been known as beautiful creatures that are pure and clean. They are the epitome of manââ¬â¢s view of perfection. Marquez has created an angel that is rank, disturbing...

Bread Baking an American Pasttime
Baking bread at home can be both fun and rewarding. There is no better way to create a wholesome and welcoming atmosphere than by baking a fresh loaf of milk bread or having guest walk into a room that smells of cooling banana bread. Although bread making has been a part of American culture for centuries todayââ¬â¢s fast paced lifestyles has all but eliminated the art of making breads at home. However, it only takes a little flour and some kitchen know-how to revive this tradition for domestic excellence. There are two main types of breads, yeast breads and quick breads.Yeast breads are the airy, light and fluffy breads that are used for sandwiches and dinner rolls. Quick breads generally have fruit or nuts in them and have a denser composition. One of the easiest and most rewarding types of yeast bread is milk bread. Milk bread is a great place for the novice bread maker to start. It is easy and only requires milk, flour, salt, sugar and yeast, (All Recipes, n. d. ). In addition to the simple ingredients as the baker gains experience variations on this recipe can be made to include various cheeses, herbs or grains.Another type of yeast bread that has become a staple in kitchens across America is a simple country French bread. This bread is often long and crusty and it goes great with soups or dishes with heavy sauces. Country French bread takes more time than milk bread but by using recipes similar to the one listed on www. breadworld. com, bread makers both professionals and beginners can produce the flaky classic. Other types of breads that can be made at home include quick breads. These breads are called quick breads because they do not require the time that yeast breads need to rise. Common quick breads include banana bread, apple date bread or sour dough. Find amateur recipes for these breads at www. thejoykitchen. com. References All Recipes (n. d. ). Milk Bread. Is male more aggressive than female? Essay
It is generally thought that human males tend to behave more violently and aggressively than human females ââ¬â and it seems true. In United States, most of the homicides during 1980 to 2008 are males, representing 90% of the total number (United States Department of Justice, 2010), and it is also the trend in the whole world. The reason of the difference between man and female in violence is always explained biologically ââ¬â the testosterone level of adult males is 20 times to females, as testosterone would make people more aggressive (Terburg & Aarts & Honk, 2011). However, it is not a suitable explanation to the question as the testosterone level of boys and girl are same until they are about eight years old and boys actually acting more violently and aggressively since four-year-old. A more reliable explanation would be the different of size of corpus callosum, which is the part that connects the right and the left hemisphere in the brain. As boys are having a smaller co rpus callosum than girls, they are more difficult to work under trauma and neglect comparing to girls. Therefore, boys needs to receive more love and caretaking than girls in order to keep their corpus callosum. If their caretaker could not give them enough attention, their prefrontal cortices, which are the part of brain related to self control and empathy would be damaged. The amygdala, which is the part of brain forming the feeling of fear, would also be excited, and fears would be formed. As a result, their serotonin levels would be decreased and product more corticosterone, and these would led to the decrease of calming ability and the increase of stress hormone. Therefore, boys are more easily to have weaker selves, lower empathy, lower control on avoid to behave violently and more fears. However, the society is most likely to give less care and love to males as the society requests males to be brave, strong and independent. Males are hard to gain love and caring as they need to fit in a image of male in the society. The situation increase the aggressive of male further. These factors led to the difference of violent behavior and aggressive level between boys and girls (Demause, 2010). In other species, mainly mammals such as rat, would have a similar gender difference which male is more violently and aggressively than females. According to a study (Adams, 1991), males are much more easily to fright with another male than female when during the breeding season while in theà presence of females. However, the gender different of violent would only occur in this moment. Male and female are having no difference on aggressive level and behaving violent in other situation such as defending and offending according to the study. The reason of this difference is that males need to defeat other males to mate with female during the breeding season in order to reproduce the next generation. The violent of male during this period is base on the genetic setting, which creature needs to reproduce continuously. Although there are similar gender differences of violent behavior between animal and human, they obviously do not having similar theories. The gender difference of violent of human is because of the difference of brain structure and the pressure needed to bear. The difference is not just occurred because of biosocial reason, but also artificial reason. Although the brain structure could not be changed, the most importance reason to increase the violent behavior and aggressive level of male is still base on how the family and society treat them. Generally, people will not blame and punish non-human animals for their bad behavior including killing people because people consider that the behavior of animals are genetic and could not be controlled by themselves. Although some of these animals may be killed as they are considered to be dangerous to human, most of them would not be seen as guilty. Some may think that part of human personality had been also designed in the DNA before birthing, so it is not fair to blame human who had done something wrong as the personality had soon designed how he or she would behave and he or she is forced to do the bad behavior by the DNA. However, human is differing from other non-human species because human have the ability to control their behavior. Human have the ability to learn to behave good by considering the others and do something that would not harming and annoying others. Actually, genetic is not very importance for affecting humanââ¬â¢s personality. For example, although the diff erence of violent behavior and aggressive level between male and female is partly related to the genetic different as mentioned, it could be changed by suitable nurturance. Male could build up a static and calm personality if they had received enough love and care from the society and family. The later and earlier generation of criminal are not inheriting the personality the genetic of behaving badly. It is obvious thatà nurture plays a more importance role of shaping oneââ¬â¢s personality than genetic factor. Therefore, human can and should avoid behaving badly. Human have developed a lot of way and system in order to teach human avoid doing something which would harm others and doing something that would benefit others and the society. Civilization and education are common way to teach people how to control their behavior and doing something that would be good for the society. Human build up moralities in order to set rules of how human act and behave. Human could learn how to behave good through moral education and taking the behavior of their family members, friends and society as example to learn how to behave good. It is also a big different to animals as animals would only living following their instinctive reaction. They do not have the ability to recognize what is right and what is wrong. They also do not have the ability to learn how to behave good and consider the situation of other.

Harpercollins and Social Care Essay
Harpercollins and Social Care Essay Harpercollins and Social Care Essay P1- Potential hazards and the harm that may arise from each in a health and social care setting. The objective of this assignment is to examine health, safety and hazards within a health and social care environment, I will be giving examples of hazards I have witnessed within a health and social care setting (Nursery) and I will explain the potential effects that may occur. Hazard: A hazard can be an accident, it can cause injury and there is a chance of an individual being harmed, or being put into danger, for example a fire hazard may occur if the gas has been left on and someone lights a flame. This is a serious hazard. (Collins English Dictionary ââ¬â1991, 1994, 1998, 2000, 2003) Placement: The placement I worked at for two weekswas located in south Birmingham, it was a day care centre where children aged 0-5 attended. To enter the nursery there is a gate which is always left open and unattended. There is then a straight pathway which leads straight to the nursery. To enter the nursery you must press the bell or enter a code that only the staffs know of. Once you enter there are two heavy duty doors which are hard to push open and close. The nursery is all on one ground there is no higher ground or lower ground. There is a office and a wash room on the way in to the nursery. The room is rather large and is split into 3 sections separated by gates. 1st section is where babies were, the middle section is where the toddlers/infants were and the 3rd section is where the oldest children were. The section in which the babies were was next to the kitchen and a store room. Where the toddlers were was the main entrance, toilets and the heavy duty doors. It was locked off by the gates though. Also where the children were was the backdoors to where the garden and field was. There was about 30 children and 5 members of staff and 3 students who were on work experience including myself. The physical condition of the children at the nursery were, that they were normal, healthy, regular children who were very curious, vulnerable, active, emotional, very delicate and very young meaning that their awareness to danger and hazards is very limited. Due to them being so vulnerable means that they need to be watched at all times ensuring that they are safe as they may pick anything up. The employees at the nursery were experiences qualified workers; there were 5 members of staff 2 where the babies were 2 where the toddlers were and 1 where the children were, and in each section was a student who was on work experience. As there were 5 members of staff who were qualified they should know about health and safety which can lead to fewer hazards. Also as there were 3 students with no experience this can lead to more hazards and risks. Hazard 1: Front gate left open unattended. People can see that the gates are opened and unattended so they might decide to walk in which may lead to them damaging property, theft or even taking property information. The children may see that the doors are open which can lead to them running out and they might now be able to be stopped as there is no one attending the doors, this can lead to them having an accident or something very serious. The worst possible case is that an intruder can come in and maybe abduct a child from the nursery, which will lead to an investigation and maybe closure of the nursery. Hazard 2: Gates in the nursery left open. They can run out of the section they are suppose to stay in and maybe get their fingers caught in the gates or doors, which can lead to them injuring themselves and having to have professional help. They can run into the open area where the kitchen is, if they enter the kitchen they may mess with the gas switches or and chemical substances left in the bottom draws which they may eat, drink this can cause them serious harm. They may run into store room and mess with the food and cutlery, which will lead to them harming themselves, and damage of

Dictionaries and Lexicons
Dictionaries and Lexicons Dictionaries and Lexicons Dictionaries and Lexicons By Maeve Maddox Both dictionaries and lexicons are collections of words. Both words derive from Latin and Greek words meaning to speak or to say. dictionary: A book dealing with the individual words of a language (or certain specified classes of them), so as to set forth their orthography, pronunciation, signification, and use, their synonyms, derivation, and history, or at least some of these facts lexicon: A word-book or dictionary; chiefly applied to a dictionary of Greek, Hebrew, Syriac, or Arabic. The word dictionary entered English before lexicon. Thomas Elyot first used the word in the title of his Latin-English dictionary in 1538. Earlier English writers all the way back to Old English times compiled collections of words, but under different labels. Dictionaries are of two kinds. One kind pairs words in two languages. This was the first kind. The oldest known are Sumerian-Akkadian word lists on cuneiform tablets. In England, the Anglo-Saxon scholar Aelfric (c. 955-1012) compiled a Latin-English vocabulary grouped under topics such as plants and animals. The first English-English dictionary in alphabetical order was compiled in 1604 by Robert Cawdrey, an English school teacher. In 1755 Samuel Johnson completed A Dictionary of the English Language. His was the most extensive and reliable English dictionary until the achievement of the Oxford English Dictionary in the 19th century. Although originally applied to dictionaries of Greek, Hebrew, Syriac, or Arabic, the word lexicon is now used in the sense of vocabulary proper to some sphere of activity or simply as an elegant variation on the word dictionary. Lexicon is the word of choice when it comes to collections of words related to supernatural matters, for example: The Harry Potter Lexicon, and The Twilight Lexicon. Words related to lexicon are lexicographer: A writer or compiler of a dictionary. lexical: pertaining to words lexeme: à A word-like grammatical form intermediate between morpheme and utterance, often identical with a word occurrence; a word in the most abstract sense, as a meaningful form without an assigned grammatical role; an item of vocabulary. lexis: the total word-stock of a language; diction or wording as opposed to other elements of verbal expression such as grammar.
